How To Make Cappuccino

Tips and Techniques and Tools

Want to know how to make cappuccino? So did I. But I wanted to know about 24 hours before a party I was hosting. Of course I was in my twenties and flew by the seat of my pants on everything. Knowing how to make a cappuccino isn't a super fine art. BUT you may want to practice before you try to impress your guests.

What Do I Need To Make Cappuccino?

  • A cappuccino maker (Wait don't stop reading! There are CHEAP ones that work well!)

  • Milk

  • Coffee beans - preferably espresso beans

  • Water

  • That's IT! NOTHING ELSE - Super duper easy, right?

Well kinda. The ingredients are the easy part. Perfecting the art of using the water to froth the milk is something you want to work on. And it's not really expensive to mess around and try.

How To Make Cappuccino - The ONLY Two Steps

  • 1. Make The Espresso Shot

  • 2. Foam The Milk

  • 3. Add a Topping (totally optional!)

  • Making the espresso shot, how tough is it?

It's not - if you can read. Your cappuccino maker will have the instructions. Read 'em. Follow 'em. The directions will tell you the amount of ground beans to start with so that the result is approximately 2 ozs per cup. 2 ozs per cup is the standard amount. If you want to fly high you can always make more.

Foaming the milk, how tough is it?

Well, for the first attempt or two I would make sure you are sober. Milk foam is what makes a cappuccino! The milk should contain a generous amount of froth. To get the milk frothy:

  • Tilt the container holding the milk.

  • Bring the steaming wand almost to the top of the milk while it foams.

  • Go around the surface of the milk as it froths to make even more foam.

  • The foam is KEY in how to make cappuccino look like Starbucks or Scooters. Master this and you got it down. It really won't take but a few times while you acquaint yourself with your cappuccino maker.

OK got nice THICK foam? Next assemble. Here's how.

(There should be enough foam to fill one-third of the cup.)

  • Remove the steam wand from the milk

  • Pour the espresso shots into the cup or cups. I pour from the side so the espresso goes UNDER the foam!

  • The grand final - the topping!

IF you want - now you add the toppings. Standard toppings are:

  • nutmeg

  • cinnamon

  • And then some coffee houses get a little over the top by offering vanilla powder.

But that's it! *POOF* That's how make cappuccino like the pros.

And don't let the cappuccino maker be a hang up. You can get a CHEAP cappuccino maker almost anywhere - Target, Walmart etc. No need to dent you wallet!

Have fun and thanks for stopping by!
